Janie Yao
Choreographer and Artistic Director
Janie Yao trained with Mitsi Dancing School and the Houston Ballet in Chinese Classical and Folk Dance and Ballet. Ms. Yao is also a certified teacher of the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Syllabus. She earned a BFA in Dance Performance from the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University in Ballet, Modern and Jazz. During her studies at SMU, Ms. Yao worked with numerous world renowned dancers and master choreographers and choreographed many works for the Meadow’s Brown Bag Series and other events. Her choreography has been invited to many prestigious events such as the Dallas Morning News: Dance for the Planet, grand opening of Cirque de Soleil: Dralion in Houston, the grand opening of the Meadows Museum of Dallas with King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía of Spain, and etc. She is the founder and current executive and artistic director of Dance of Asian America, a non-profit dance company established in 2001. |

Mitsi Shen
Choreographer and Rehearsal Director
Director Mitsi Shen graduated with top honors from the Beijing Dance Academy. She was former principal and respected teacher of the Shanghai Dance Troupe and Shanghai Dance Academy. Many of her former students have become famous dancers and movie stars all around world. She was the Gold Medalist for the National Dance Fever Competition in 1983. She is the director of Mitsi Dancing School, a well-established dance school in the southwest Houston area for more than 20 years. |

Zheng Yifan
Resident Guest Artist from Shanghai
Zheng Yifan won the national recognition award for her performance of “Hu Tung Er” in the 2006 Dao Li Cup National Competition and the Gold Medal for the performance of “Qing’s Princess” in the 2003 Dao Li Cup National Competition. She was also recognized as one of City of Shanghai’s best dancer in 2006. |

Sheri Glandon
Ballet Technique Instructor
Ms. Glandon received full scholarship from The Julliard School Dance Division. She later danced professionally in the San Antonio Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, and Pennsylvania Ballet. She has had two ballets choreographed especially for her by Yacor Sharwin and Lynn Taylor Corbett in the 1980s. |

Shizu Yasuda
Ballet Technique and Modern Instructor
She grew up in Japan, where she started her dance training with Sakiko Ichinomiya Ballet School and danced with Michiko Baba Ballet Company and Dance Harbor Jazz & Modern Dance Company. She studied various dance styles of dance at places such as Ballet Arts, Dance space, Peridance School, Broadway Dance Center, and Steps on Broadway as well as performed with several choreographers and dance companies in New York such as Slam, Bryan Davice, Henning Rübsam, and Sensedance Company. While she was dancing with Sensedance Company, her dancing was recognized and reviewed on the major presses such as New York Times and Back Stage. She currently dances with Ad Deum Dance Company and Dance of Asian America performing solo and principal roles. |

Xing Sang
Guest Artist and Instructor
of Shanghai Dance Company
Xing Sang is an outstanding performer and rehearsal director of the Shanghai Dance Academy. Mr. Xing received his undergraduate degree from Beijing Dance Academy on 1st and 2nd place scholarships. He received his masters from Shanghai Dance Academy. He was the gold medalist of the China’s 2004 National Dance Competition. He was the Principal dancer for “Dreams of Tunghuang” for which he received the Best Performance Award. |

Song Jie
Guest Artist of Shanghai Dance Company
Ms. Song is a graduate of the Shanghai Theatre Academy: Dance Academy where she is currently earning a master on 2 nd place scholarship. She received 1st place for her performance of “Blossoms from her Beauty” (Xinjiang Dance) at the 2006 Shanghai Dance Competition. Ms. Song won the Silver Medal of China’s 2006 National Dance Competition with her amazing performance in “Pure Reflections” (Dai Dance). Both of these high caliber dances was premiered in the United States in “Splendid Asia: Tour of China” at Miller Outdoor Theatre on October 21, 2006. Ms. Song’s dance performances were extremely well received during her tours of Hong Kong and Thailand. |

Yang Jing Jing
Guest Artist of Shanghai Dance Company
Yang Jing Jing is the female principal dancer of Chinese classical dance in the Shanghai Dance Company. She has been praised nationally for her talent in character display and attention to detail in her performances. She won the national recognition award for her performance of “Yesterday” in the 2006 Dao Li Cup National Competition. Within the past few years, she is toured internationally with the Shanghai Dance Company in England, Thailand, Hong Kong, and etc. |

Lan Hao
Guest Artist of Shanghai Dance Company
Lan Hao is the male principal dancer of Chinese classical dance in the Shanghai Dance Company. He has been praised nationally for his amazing strength and precision in his dance technique. In the 2006 Dao Li Cup National Dance Competition, he won the national recognition award for his performance of “Golden Warrior” as well as gold medal for his performance in “Charge!” |
